Welcome To Prison: Phase #4

Damn is all you can say. You have sat in the county jail 8 months, which is the average time for someone to sit in county jail before being charged and found guilty of a crime or crimes. You have be found guilty of a federal offense. You’re looking at 3-5 years or 36-60 months in federal prison. The federal prison system goes by months and not years. 12 months= 1 year. Your world is about to be flipped upside down and you will need permission to do everything from what to wear, how to wear it, what you can eat and when you can eat to when your allowed to use the bathroom. Man, you had it so good and now your about to be living in a Goddamn nightmare. You now will be known not by your name but by an 8 digit number and thrown into the Federal prison system. Everything you had in society now is gone and means nothing. Your money, status, lifestyle, material possessions and maybe your mate is all gone. If you have family and real friends willing and wanting to ride out your up coming prison time, count them as a blessing. Your about to live under a new set of rules and values. If them new rules are not followed correctly you can and will end up hurt badly, beaten up or worse dead. Your life has went from sugar to shit. You just got back from being sentenced at federal court. You didn’t tell and you kept your mouth shit. You are being mature about the fact you messed up and taking responsibility for your criminal actions. You took a Plea deal, 90% which most all federal inmates do. You got 5 years or 60 months. As you sit in the holding cell or tank waiting to be taken back to county jail, your emotions are messing with you and anxiety is messing with you bad. You start thinking about how your family and children will cope with you being in prison. How dumb you were and why why why did you do what you did. You start talking to yourself asking if you can do this time and come home in one piece and not worse off than you are now.

Your escorted back to the county jail and wait there two more months. The day has come for you to transfer to a federal hold over and taken to the prison you been assigned to. The federal system has a processing system it uses to determine which prisons federal inmates go to. There are many factors like what is your age, whether you have a prior record and what crime or crimes did you commit. The feds have six major regions they consider when selecting the prison a federal inmate is sent to. The regions that are considered are:
*Mid-Atlantic Region: Virginia, Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia
*North Central Region: Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North and South Dakota and Wisconsin
*North East Region: Connecticut, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
*South Central Region: Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas
*South East Region: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Puerto Rico, Mississippi and South Carolina.
*Western Region: Alaska, Arizona, California, Idaho, Hawaii, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Wyoming and Washington
The feds also go by a point system when selecting prisons for federal inmates:
*0-11 points= A Camp prison.
*12-15 points= A Low prison.
*16-23 points= A Medium prison.
*24-35 points= A USP or United States Penitentiary prison.
*36 points or higher= ADX or Super Max prison.

Two important things viewers need to know:
1. If innocent never plead guilty NEVER! If you quickly plead guilty and the State or Feds didn’t even investigate what your accused of your making a Big mistake. When you plead guilty 9 out of 10 times you will loose your right to appeal your case. That’s all part of a plea deal. If your innocent of what your being accused of doing by NO MEANS TAKE A PLEA. Fight your case. The District Attorney will do their best to make sure you take a plea deal as going to trial is a long an costly process. Now think about it. If your Innocent would you rather go to prison and not be able to appeal and do all that time, or you go to trial loose and have all your appeal rights. That’s something that you will need to talk with your attorney, family and yourself about. Trust me I know plenty of men with 10 years to 3 life sentences who got tricked and scared into pleading guilty and didn’t have the right legal representation when faced with false criminal charges.

2. Mandatory Sentences; Please be aware of mandatory sentences. These are crimes that carry a set amount of time or mandatory prison time no matter what. Examples: If you get caught with a gun its a guaranteed 3-5 year federal prison sentence. If you get caught with a certain amount of drugs its a guaranteed 5-25 years In federal prison. I will have more information posted on mandatory sentences.
